Is it normal to do nothing creative (like, at all) at an advertising agency as a designer?
I’m a fairly experienced designer (not quite senior though) who was recently hired at an ad agency (yes I am very grateful to have gotten a job in this job market). I get that agencies aren’t the most creative environments but it’s been a couple of months and all I’ve done is execution and working under the very stringent art direction of others (basically I’m their extended hand with zero autonomy when it comes to design decisions) – so literally not a single creative thing. Is this normal? Like, I get that brunt work is part of it, especially as a more junior designer…but all of it? I’m just starting to feel quite frustrated and honestly? Bored (but at the same time stressed because of this deadline driven environment??). Basically I want to understand what my expectations in this industry should be. Also, where could I pivot to in the long term?
