Chicago Cubs' Wild Card Series roster set Tuesday

The Chicago Cubs have set their Wild Card Series roster against the San Diego Padres.

There weren’t a ton of surprises on the 26-man roster, with the Cubs opting for 14 position players and 12 pitchers for the best-of-three series against San Diego.

One of the key decisions was whether to include pitchers Edward Cabrera or Caleb Thielbar in the mix for the playoff series, but neither made the cut as the Cubs instead opted to keep Aaron Civale on their 12-man pitching staff for the series.

Matthew Boyd is going to start Game 1 of the series for the Cubs, and the expectation is that Kevin Gausman will likely start Game 2 of the series, though that has not yet been made official.

The position player group didn’t contain any surprises, as Matt Shaw and Gabriel Arias were both kept as reserve players for the Cubs, along with Tyrone Taylor and Michael Conforto.

First pitch between the Cubs and Padres is set for 9 p.m. Tuesday, with the game airing on Peacock and NBCSN.
