For a retiree intending to spend their capital rather than maximise an inheritance, what exactly is the equity risk buying?
Does this theoretical 70-year-old want to be buried with their TIPS? If no legacy goal, then why use not that fact to leverage mortality? 750k into a SPIA at 70 would give you almost 70k/year, then putting the other 250k into a DIA for 80 would nearly double your income at that age.
