Error while editing answer to remove <BR> from code block [duplicate]

I've been trying to edit this answer. The code was originally written as plain text with italic formatting and tags at the end of each line. I put it into a code block and tried to remove all those unnecessary tags, but when I try to remove the last one I get a popup "An error occurred submitting the edit."
