About 20 years ago I was at a reception for some award and my boss, Tony Goodman, introduced me to this little Japanese guy who turned out to be Shigeru Miyamoto. I literally babbled. I shook his hand with both of mine, and gibbered out something idiotic about how I made games too.
Yes, my resume is solid. Under my belt I can boast of Call of Cthulhu, Doom, Quake, much of the Age of Empires series, and an assist for Civilization but MAN ALIVE IT WAS SHIGERU MIYAMOTO. I was so thunderstruck I missed my chance to ask him my number one question in all gaming history.
I had no idea that I would be so affected by hero worship. It just hit me like the hammer of Thor. I've met Will Smith, I've met Bill Gates, and plenty of other famous celebrities, but I didn't go off my rocker for those people. Meeting Miyamoto pierced me to my core.
(For those wondering, my number one question in all gaming history is how the HELL he got Pikmin approved, because wow.)
