Google Chrome's next update will mark the end of popular ad blockers

To be fair, I've been on Safari, which is not Google sponsored, although I trust Apple only marginally more than Google and Apple doesn't seem particularly interested in Safari. But yeah, I take your point. I probably should get back on Firefox or some derivative thereof.

Unfortunately this feels like a losing battle--the increasing complexity of the web makes it increasingly costly to build and maintain a browser engine such that there are only a handful of players today. I don't see any way out of this except to identify some subset of the web that 90+% of sites use and adopt that as a new standard that browsers can target.
