To be fair, I think there is a valid point buried in there. Most people have limited time/attention.

If you tell someone to do something because it matters, and then nothing happens, you are going to disillusion some people. That can be counterproductive, especially since even things that are relatively effective are still going to be small things that barely nudge the needle, with set backs.

It's still the right thing to do if for no other reason than symbolic, but we probably shouldn't oversell the likely the effect. There's nothing wrong with wanting to maximize the effectiveness of a finite amount of effort.

Or you could do both.

I mean, yes, although y our time is mostly fungible. Any time spent doing X could be doing Y. The few minutes you spend typing up a few paragraphs is that one extra phonebank call, or whatever.
