Introduction

OrbOracle is a decentralized, sustainable oracle protocol designed to provide continuous price feeds secured through exponentially weighted moving averages (EWMA), reporter-funded staking, and dynamic token incentives. Prior to this project, Orb was limited to standalone, single-asset primary price feeds. In modern decentralized finance (DeFi), protocols and automated systems frequently require synthetic asset valuation, cross-rate currency pricing (for example, deriving ETH/EUR by composing ETH/USD and EUR/USD), and price inversions without relying on centralized aggregation layers.

This Google Summer of Code project accomplished two major pillars for the Stability Nexus ecosystem:

  1. Architected and delivered the Composable Oracle Protocol: Developed and deployed production Solidity contracts (ComposedOracle, ComposedOracleFactory) enabling permissionless on-chain multiplication, division, and inversion across arbitrary base and composed price feeds normalized to 18 decimals (WAD), supported by synchronous historical extreme lookbacks (readValueInterval) and verified through comprehensive Foundry property-based fuzz test suites. Complementing the contracts, built an end-to-end Web3 interface allowing users to browse, create, simulate, and inspect composed feeds seamlessly.
  2. Polished and shipped production web infrastructure across Stability Nexus: Modernized, optimized, and deployed responsive web portals for the Stability Nexus ecosystem, including the flagship organization website (stability.nexus), the Gluon stablecoin landing page (gluon.stability.nexus), and the redesigned Orb Oracle decentralized application (orb-oracle.stability.nexus), integrating interactive protocol mechanics walkthroughs, dynamic charts, research libraries, automated SEO metadata, and OpenSSF Scorecard compliance.

Across the coding period, a total of 73 pull requests (70 merged, 3 open for post-GSoC review) were submitted across the Stability Nexus and AOSSIE repositories.

Work Completed

1. Composable Oracle Protocol (OrbOracle-Solidity)

The core contribution to the smart contracts was implementing composability without breaking backwards compatibility with the existing IOracle interface:

  • Fixed-Point Scaling (WAD): Standardized all internal prices to 18 decimals:
    • Multiplication: $(valA \times valB) / 10^{18}$
    • Division: $(valA \times 10^{18}) / valB$ (reverting cleanly on zero division)
    • Inversion: $(10^{18} \times 10^{18}) / val$
  • Synchronous Extreme Lookback (readValueInterval): Engineered the calculation to sample historical snapshots across both parent feeds, deriving accurate min/max price bounds over any user-defined historical lookback window.
  • Permissionless Factory (ComposedOracleFactory): Provides single-transaction deployment of composed oracles, recording deployer metadata, emitting indexable events, and maintaining registry lists for on-chain enumeration.
  • Fuzz Testing: Added ComposedOracleFuzz.t.sol using Foundry to execute randomized property-based tests verifying deep recursive nesting (up to 12 compositions), blacklist reverts, and mathematical consistency against an independent reference model.
  • Protocol Fixes & Quality: Remediated the reporter reward denominator in Oracle.sol (PR #20), converted read methods to view functions (PR #6), updated SPDX identifiers to UNLICENSED (PR #21), and established AGENTS.md and MAINTAINERS.md guidelines (PR #13).

2. Composed Oracle Web Interface (OrbOracle-EVM-Frontend)

Built a complete Web3 experience for discovering, simulating, and deploying composed feeds:

  • Creation Wizard: Developed a tabbed deployment workflow supporting both Base and Composed oracles, featuring parent feed selectors, operation pickers (Multiplication / Division), inversion toggles, and live formula previews.
  • Historical Charting & Analytics: Integrated Chart.js to zip and plot synchronized historical snapshots from both parent feeds alongside the composed EWMA curve.
  • Lookback Simulation: Added an interactive interval tester to simulate readValueInterval(sampleSize) directly from the UI.
  • Reliable Event Log Parsing: Replaced brittle client-side timeouts in createOracle with deterministic waitForTransactionReceipt and Viem parseEventLogs, resolving redirect race conditions.
  • UI/UX Overhaul & SEO: Redesigned the Home, Deploy, Explorer, and Operate pages, added a unified global toast notification system, and shipped canonical SEO tags, sitemaps, and robots directives.

3. Stability Nexus Portal & Ecosystem Landing Pages

  • Main Website (StabilityNexus/Website):
    • Designed and deployed the Research Library showcasing 12+ academic research papers.
    • Built a custom YouTube playlist viewer for research seminar recordings (22 videos).
    • Redesigned the Software / Applications catalog with interactive details modals, per-chain deployment addresses, and filter categories.
    • Implemented the Events & Workshop page, updated branding asset kits, and configured OpenSSF Scorecard CI workflows.
  • Gluon Stablecoin Landing Page (StabilityNexus/Gluon-LandingPage):
    • Shipped the "Why Gluon" section and interactive protocol mechanics walkthrough (fission, fusion, and beta transmutation).
    • Integrated terms of use modal and full mobile/tablet responsiveness.
    • Created machine-readable AI agent readiness endpoints (/openapi.json, /api/info.json, robots.txt).

Future Work & Next Steps

  1. Multi-Chain Deployments: Deploy verified instances of OracleFactory and ComposedOracleFactory across our targeted networks: Ethereum, Polygon, Base, BSC, and Ethereum Classic.
  2. Deep Composition Tree Visualizer: Surface an interactive node-graph visualizer in the WebUI to help users inspect multi-tier composite price feeds (e.g., a composed oracle composed of two other composed oracles).
  3. Automated Reporter Keepers: Expand open-source keeper bots to automate value submissions and reward distributions across both base and composed feeds.

Challenges Faced

One of the biggest hurdles was taking the math from the research paper and turning it into working smart contracts. Formulas look simple on paper, but in Solidity you have to be very careful with decimals so numbers do not lose precision or divide by zero. Another tricky part was handling price history across two different oracles. Because each price feed updates at its own pace, calculating the historical minimum and maximum prices over the same lookback window without running into gas issues took a lot of careful thought and testing.

Learnings

I learned a lot throughout this summer, especially from code reviews with my mentors. They helped me spot code smells and taught me how to write cleaner, simpler code that is easy to read and maintain. I also learned a ton about UI and UX design - building web interfaces that feel simple and intuitive for normal users rather than confusing developer tools. Working on project assets also taught me what really goes into making a logo and building a brand identity, like vector precision, clear scaling, and contrast across dark and light themes.

My Experience

Working on this project for Google Summer of Code with Stability Nexus and AOSSIE has been a great experience. I got to build both the smart contracts and the websites around them, seeing everything come together from theoretical formulas to live apps on testnet.

A big thank you to my mentors - Bruno Woltzenlogel Paleo, Sarthak Dengre, Yogesh Agrawal, and M4dhav. Their patience, helpful reviews, and constant feedback helped me grow a lot as a developer. Seeing our work live on Sepolia and running on the project websites feels really rewarding, and I look forward to staying involved and helping deploy to more networks in the future.
