Pro and Tell, New Google Models, Monkey Business

Happy Wednesday.

We’re live on YouTube and 𝕏.

The current thing in tech and business is Apple’s new touchscreen MacBook.

Today’s Lineup

Run of Show

Pro and Tell, New Google Models, Monkey Business

Apple’s ‘Pro and Tell’

Apple is holding a special event today in Los Angeles after already announcing new M6 iMacs, a 14-inch M6 MacBook Pro, and an OLED iPad mini. The big reveal was Apple’s first touchscreen MacBook. The 14-inch is $2,899, and the 16-inch is $3,399. We’ll have Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman on the show today at 12p PT to break it all down.

Genie 4

Google DeepMind unveiled Genie 4, its newest world model. The most noticeable improvement is that movement looks way cleaner and more natural instead of looking glitchy and robotic. Sundar posted a demo of a character on a motorcycle for reference. Google also just released its latest model Gemini 4 Carbon.

Monkey Business

8VC’s Joe Lonsdale is backing Safer Human Medicine, a startup that wants to build a domestic breeding operation capable of supplying 30,000 monkeys for biomedical research. Even Citrini is talking about the shortage of lab monkeys.

Anthropic’s Cash Pile

Anthropic disclosed in its S-1 that it had $112.4B in cash and another $19.3B in short-term investments as of June, totaling $131.7B. That’s more than every non-bank U.S. company except Berkshire Hathaway and Alphabet, and the IPO could add tens of billions more.

Clip Spotlight: Gavin Baker on neolabs pivoting into neoclouds:

“If you signed a long-term compute contract at any point prior to May of 2026, you are way in the money. You’re buying compute for $10 or $15 a watt. And you could sell it at a massive premium to that price today.”

“And it’s not just that the spot market is tight today. You have to pay vast amounts to bring on a cluster in mid- to late-2027.”

“I think that’s something that public markets are not appreciating... All [this information] is out there, but for whatever reason, I think it’s not legible to the public markets.”
