Meta’s Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan Departing
Meta Platforms Inc. Chief Global Affairs Officer Joel Kaplan is leaving the company, according to a company representative.
Kaplan, a longtime top adviser to Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg with staunch Republican ties, assumed the top global policy role ahead of President Donald Trump’s return to the White House in early 2025.
Kaplan, who joined Meta to oversee US public policy in 2011, formerly worked on the campaign and in the administration of President George W. Bush. The well-connected Republican led Meta’s policy efforts as Trump returned to the Oval Office and is leaving after the 2026 US midterm elections, in 2027, after a decade and a half at the company.
Zuckerberg has more recently elevated former Trump administration official Dina Powell McCormick as a right-hand adviser. Powell McCormick, also a former Goldman Sachs Group Inc. executive, is well-connected across both Washington and Wall Street. Now, as a co-leader of Meta Compute, she is helping the company pursue its AI ambitions while helping to smooth broader concerns around the technology, including its enormous footprint with data centers around the country.
