The Oldster Radio Hour: Episode 2
This is the second episode of The Oldster Radio Hour, “Aging One Breath at a Time.”
It features my interview with Lewis Richmond, a Buddhist priest and author, who teaches a course called “Aging as a Spiritual Practice” through Tricycle: The Buddhist Review, a magazine and online learning center. It’s modeled after Richmond’s book by the same name. Stick with it until the end for a little related Sari & Brian lore.

P.S. Some of you might have caught an earlier, less edited version of this interview in one of my Letters from the Editor, last spring. I’ve realized that some of those interviews have gotten lost in the shuffle, and this one has really stuck with me. So I decided to reconfigure it for the podcast.
I’ve also made a decision that for now, I’ll return to my original plan to release episodes just once a month through this first season of The Oldster Radio Hour. I had thought twice a month made sense, but at the beginning of this new venture, Brian and I are learning as we’re going and, although this work definitely taps many of our existing skills and talents, it is a lot to take in—a lot of gear and software and tricks of the trade to learn.
In case you missed it, here’s Episode 1:
I also have a looming December deadline for the Oldster anthology that’s adding pressure. So bear with us as we get up to speed, and consider this first phase sort of a soft launch. In the new year, after I’ve turned in the book, we’ll make a bigger splash, ramp up to more frequent releases, and seek out additional sponsors.
In mid-November we’ll share our first documentary-style episode, which is both exciting and daunting. It involved a three-camera shoot in a diner, and a remote video interview with a social scientist who conducted a study related to our subject. It’s going to be amazing! We’re so excited about it. But we want to give ourselves a little bit of a longer runway to get it absolutely right.
We’ve also conducted many interviews for future documentary-style episodes along key Oldster themes, and we look forward to sharing them with you before long.
