I'm Not a Designer, Do you have any advice on How to Create a proportional Design?

I work in a small company, I'm familiar with Photoshop, Illustrator, CorelDraw but just a decent skill and that makes me work very slow.. far from actually make a professional design. Any guidance on how to structure a design? composition? or maybe workflow that works for you?
