I built an open-source workspace for docs, databases, whiteboards and a journal – one Docker container, SQLite, no AI, no tracking
Hi everyone, for the past months I've been building Flowplan , an open-source workspace for notes and projects in the spirit of Notion and AppFlowy. My main goal was that it should be easy to run yourself: one container with SQLite – no Postgres, no Redis, no separate search service. Back it up by copying one folder, or let Litestream stream it to S3. What it does Documents: block editor with slash menu and Markdown shortcuts, tasks with due dates and assignees, tables, callouts, toggles, columns, embeds, synced blocks, voice notes, and a table of contents next to long pages. Databases: table, board, calendar, timeline, gallery, list, feed, chart, form and sprint views on the same records. Relations, rollups, formulas, recurring dates, reminders. Records can be dragged between groups and between databases. Projects and tickets (optional): ticket keys like WEB-123 , epics, sprints with burndown, automations, time tracking, a Git connection (GitHub, GitLab, Gitea), and an import from Jira and Trello. Whiteboards: sticky notes, shapes, connectors, mind maps, voting, a timer and a presentation mode. Journal: one page per day with templates, trackers, streaks, "on this day" memories and an optional PIN lock. Calculations in your notes: type 2400 * 12 = and press Tab. You can also factor and solve terms, plot function graphs, and draw vectors in 2D and in rotatable 3D. Collaboration: real-time editing with cursors (Yjs/CRDT), comments, mentions, suggested changes, an inbox, and sharing with guests or publicly. Everywhere: installable PWA with offline mode, plus desktop apps for macOS, Windows and Linux with automatic updates. For admins: sign-in with e-mail/password, passkeys or OIDC SSO with groups (Keycloak, Authentik, Zitadel, Entra ID …); per-user limits, an audit log, API tokens and webhooks, CalDAV, Prometheus metrics; full-text search with OCR, Notion/Markdown/CSV import and version history. It has no AI features and no tracking. The UI and the docs are available in English and German. Try it / run it curl -O raw.githubusercontent.com/yannicschuller/flowplan/main/compose.yaml curl -o .env raw.githubusercontent.com/yannicschuller/flowplan/main/.env.example # set APP_URL in .env docker compose up -d The images are for amd64 and arm64, so it also runs on a Raspberry Pi. GitHub: github.com/yannicschuller/flowplan Website: flowplan.org Docs: docs.flowplan.org Desktop apps: flowplan.org/download Hosted version (in Germany, if you don't want to run it yourself): app.flowplan.org It's AGPL-3.0 and still young (v0.3). I'd really appreciate feedback, especially on installation and on what keeps you from switching from your current tool. Bug reports and feature requests are welcome as GitHub issues.
