Getting a Good Letter from my Professor

My analysis class is taught by professor X. My professor last year (professor Y) said "a letter of rec from X is very important, so go to his office hours and impress him." I have been trying to do that, I trounced the entire class on each quiz and midterm...and he still clearly doesn't even know my name. I'm not really sure what I can do, I guess I just don't know how to "play the game" properly. I just want him to know my name, at the very least.
