Russia Lifts Ban on Diesel Exports as Part of Trump-Putin Deal

Russia partially lifted its ban on diesel exports, allowing 500,000 metric tons of fuel to reach international markets following an agreement between President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump, according to a Russian government statement.

The decision, which takes effect Saturday, marks a partial reversal of restrictions imposed this year to protect domestic fuel supplies. Russian oil companies will immediately begin negotiating export contracts with international buyers in coordination with the government, according to the statement.

Russia initially restricted diesel exports to non-producers on Jan. 31 and extended the ban to producers on July 9.

The government didn’t say when the 500,000 tons would be shipped or whether additional export volumes could be authorized.
