I Got A New Job Today

At the end of my writing this morning, I had a missed call from a local tea shop I had applied to at the beginning of the week. Management wanted to invite me in for an interview. To their surprise, I was able to come in and interview this evening. I contacted my counselor and rescheduled our appointment, letting him know about the interview opportunity.

I was also able to obtain the ebook of Shadow and Claw, the first omnibus of Gene Wolfe’s Book of the New Sun series. I took the afternoon to recharge. I went to the park and found a shaded bench under a tree and spent some time reading the book. I am not a big fiction reader, but I have enjoyed the detail of the story so far. My friend Dru said it can be a tough read at first, recommending some podcasts and breakdowns, but

I am going to continue reading it blind. I arrived early to my interview and everything went well. The manager, Javen (sp?), was very personable and seemed surprised at how smooth things went. I have never worked as a server or a tea-preparer, so I let her know that. I was invited to work a preview shift tomorrow night for two hours. I believe I will do a good job. I will be working alongside the owner, Ivy.

I feel very much in tune with fate, or the universe. The timing of everything worked out very well and the transition seems like it will go seamlessly. I think it is funny how just before I left my job at the pizza place this morning, a kid came in asking if they were hiring. Lucky for him, I had a photo of the old “Now Hiring” sign and a position, mine, was about to open up for him! Similarly, as I was invited to work at the tea shop, a place very inline with my personality and interests. I like to read, write, and drink tea. I am looking forward to the new adventure!
