Free Mobile Ways To Get Started

I'm starting to go down the rabbit hole of self hosting and deGoogling. A lot of what I see recommended is to start with easy things. I'll admit I don't have a clue, but things like KeePassDx was strongly discouraged repeatedly to start with if you've not dipped your toes into the world yet. I'm coming here for free recommendations that are easy to start with that is free and can be done on mobile primarily, but cross platform would be nice. I've read the wiki, but its all pretty overwhelming. I would just like to slowly start the process of being self reliant on the things that help run my day to day life. Bonus points if you can explain it to me like I'm five or at least the purpose and how it translates to the real world. Thanks in advance!
