This is a very interesting development. I actually think it's a good thing, as new customers could be very confused why to pick a CMA over a brokerage, and what the differences even are (CMA gets atm reimbursements at all asset levels and had no marginability).
This change will make things clearer, IMO, and it's for the better. It would have been nice if they allowed fixed income ETFs like sgov/vbil, but I can see why that's not really required. You can always buy those in a brokerage account
