I’m an economist, and I built an iPhone app for running regressions away from my desk
I use desktop econometrics software and remote Claude Code for my analysis, but sometimes I have a dataset ready and want to explore an idea during a meeting or while sitting on the couch. That’s why I built QuantFit. It lets you import Excel or CSV data, inspect and transform variables, generate new series, build charts, check correlations and run regressions directly on your iPhone. OLS and the data-exploration tools are free, so you can try the workflow before paying for additional estimators. It also exports results in formats including Excel and PDF, and generates structured reports with results and interpretations. There’s a research-paper-style draft option to give you a starting point, which still needs your review and analysis. Pro adds estimators such as ARDL, VAR and panel methods. One workflow I’ve been using is estimating an ARDL model, then exploring a shock scenario based on the fitted model. I’ve had people ask, “Who does econometrics on a phone?” Well, I do. It fits alongside my existing tools when I want to explore something quickly without going back to my desk. I’d love feedback from anyone who works with data, particularly after trying it. What feels useful, and where does the phone interface get in your way?
