Investing - Theory, News & General • TIPS Fund's Protection Expiration
When a TIPS fund's underlying bonds are given an inflation adjustment, then those underlying bonds are all sold over time by the fund manager, has the inflation protection for the inflation that caused those inflation adjustments disappeared even though the higher costs that inflation caused remain? [I understand how TIPS ladders are fully protected.]
P.S. Please allow me to apologize for my previous "joke for 5 people." Posting here is the only practical method I have, and I believe it is important, for those who were insulted, the moderators, and those who viewed the thread to know my intent given how different my intent was than how my statement was understandably perceived.
Although my intent was to analogize my misunderstanding of TIPS with Christopher Columbus's misunderstanding of what the continent of north America was (he believed it was India), I should have know how insulting the statement would be to the majority of people, who understandably didn't happen to know that bit of trivia.
