How AI Taught My Daughter to Take a Bath

Everyone asks what AI can do at work, but few ask what it can do in daily life.

My daughter recently learned to take a bath. But it is more that she is no longer afraid of water. She still cannot get the order right and misses some spots. She also dawdles terribly, and starts playing the moment she is in the water.

I scolded her, but then thought it was doing little good, so I decided to turn bath time into a game instead.

Black-and-white bath-step worksheet titled BATHING ROUTINE - COLOR, CUT, & FOLLOW, with nine numbered panels showing a cartoon girl washing her face, hair, arms, tummy, back, legs, bottom, and feet, then rinsing

I had AI generate an image like this and printed two copies to bring home. One is simply a coloring page for my daughter to play with. On the other, she cuts out the pieces one by one. She knows some numbers now, so she lines them up in order, and together we tape them to the outside of the shower glass.

This way she has a checklist to clear level by level while bathing, and I hope she remembers the steps while dawdling less.

After using it for a week, the effect was immediate. Not only did my daughter learn the steps, but with a goal and reminders she also became more serious and focused. After washing in order, she checks against the picture once more, then comes out of the shower very proud, saying, Dad, did I wash fast today?

This is the first AI-made thing my daughter has encountered. I have always told her that little elves live in my computer and phone and can help me work. The little elves taught my daughter to take a bath.
