Meta Taps MongoDB CEO to Lead New Enterprise AI Platform

Meta Platforms Inc. tapped MongoDB Inc.’s president and chief executive officer to lead a new AI platform for enterprise customers that Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg called “the next major pillar of our business.”

Chirantan “CJ” Desai will serve as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer, overseeing a new artificial intelligence offering for business customers, Zuckerberg said Monday in a post on the social media site X. The business unit, called Meta Enterprise Platform, aims “to help businesses use AI to grow and transform in new ways,” he said. It will “use our strengths that few other companies have,” he added, including advanced models, agents, AI infrastructure and “years of working closely with many businesses.”

Shares of MongoDB plunged as much as 27% to $300.45 at the market open in New York, their worst intraday decline since March 3. Enterprise software companies such as Microsoft Corp., Salesforce Inc. and ServiceNow Inc. also declined. Meta’s stock fell about 2%.

MongoDB’s board has brought back Dev Ittycheria as interim president and CEO, the company said Monday. He previously held both titles from 2014 to 2025. The board has begun a search for Desai’s permanent replacement.

“MongoDB’s business is strong, and there is no better person to take on the role of President and CEO in the interim than Dev Ittycheria,” said Tom Killalea, chairman of the board, in a statement. “He knows this company deeply, has remained an involved and active executive board member over the past year, and will step in immediately to ensure a seamless transition.”

The company said in the statement that it “remains confident” in its business outlook and reaffirmed its guidance for the third quarter and fiscal year 2027 that it provided earlier this month.
