Karrot building a NIP-99 WASM extension for LNbits
- LNbits already has NIP-15 Nostr Markets extension (4 years old), not migrating to NIP-99
- New extension would be NIP-99 compatible, with backward compatibility for NIP-15
- Default relays: Conduit Market Relay, Plebeian Market Relay, plus user-configurable
LNbits value proposition for merchants:
- Self-hosted Lightning node + Stripe/fiat integration out of the box
- Inventory, shipping, email (SMTP) notifications, frontend HTML pages
- WASM sandbox for extensions without exposing payments core
- Analogy: modern self-hosted WooCommerce, but leaner and more secure
Key merchant pain point: orders placed on Plebeian/Conduit go unnoticed without email alerts
- LNbits email SMTP solves this; NIP-17 DMs are not reliably monitored
Orders flow: discovery via Conduit/Plebeian Markets, checkout link routes to merchant’s LNbits instance
- Market operators see nothing: no carts, no transactions, privacy preserved client-side
Strong demand confirmed: merchants running parallel Shopify/other stores want a single integrated channel

LNURL Cash (gift card-style bearer instrument) proposed for agentic payments
