I suppose if you didn’t bother to read the example. But then I suppose you should also define what protection means.

"TIPS don't provide protection from expected inflation" is wrong, period. If you meant extra protection, then add the word. I'm pretty sure we all know what "protection" means.

If you want to delete the context of the statement, sure.

If inflation and interest rates jump and your TIPS fund drops in value, not much protection.
