watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat

Sometimes you just get the urge to start up a desktop Linux project and challenge Microsoft (and lately, Apple) for market share. Seems to be a trend for software CEO types. Some pre-Omarchy examples.

1997: Caldera Network Desktop. Ray Noorda did Linux on the desktop. Native WordPerfect, Novell NetWare integration, Sun Wabi (early MS-Windows emulator)

2001: Lindows. Michael Robertson did Linux on the desktop. Claimed MS-Windows compatibility using WINE.

2005: Ubuntu. Mark Shuttleworth did Linux on the desktop. Widely adopted, including an internal Goobuntu build at Google.

2013: SteamOS. Gabe Newell called the new Microsoft release “a catastrophe for everyone in the PC space” and did…Linux on the desktop (ish).

Anyway, why does Omarchy need so much money? Best guess is it’s going to be a form of wingnut welfare—staff positions with benefits for people with the appropriate politics.
