Displaying half-width katakana on a framebuffer console

I'm trying to find a way to get half-width katakana to display on my Debian trixie console (tty1). No X, Wayland, or other GUI installed, just the framebuffer console (underlying resolution 1920x1080, name i915drmfb).

I worked through attempting this with PSF Unifont, which doesn't support those glyphs, and some other recipes I found on-line, and have ended up at the prospect of trying to engineer my own console font with bdf2psf, but before I get deep into that mess - well, surely I'm not the first person to try to do this, for all that searching the web has failed to produce a sea of answers. There's a whole nation of katakana users out there!

So... what have I missed?
