Anthropic Leader Praises President Trump’s Data Center Stance at G20 Meeting

Anthropic co-founder Tom Brown called on countries to build more data centers at the G20 Innovation Ministerial in North Carolina on Wednesday, arguing that adding more computing power would be the best way for governments to benefit from AI gains. Elon Musk made similar comments in his virtual remarks at the event on Tuesday.

Interviewed by Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, Brown praised President Trump’s “let data reign” post on Truth Social earlier this week. “He was pointing out that data centers are just an enormous source of prosperity,” Brown said. Trump’s post also stated that communities would only oppose data centers “if they want to end up being backwards and poor.”

Brown’s appearance with Lutnick reflects a change in fortune for Anthropic, which was slapped with export controls by Lutnick’s Commerce Department in June over apparent vulnerabilities in its latest frontier model. Anthropic also won a recent court case against the Department of Defense over Secretary Pete Hegseth applying a supply chain risk designation on the AI lab.

Earlier in the morning, Lutnick interviewed Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang, who implored the assembled tech ministers not to regulate theoretical harms. Huang also said that he “surely” doesn’t have to work anymore, but said he “definitely” wouldn’t miss the next 10-15 years. “The ambition of the industry, the ambition of my colleagues, my own ambition has really been supercharged,” Huang said. “And this is another way of saying that all of you, all of the countries—your ambitions have to be supercharged.”
