Today we’re broadcasting live from CrowdStrike’s Fal.Con, where we’re interviewing much of the company’s C-Suite on all things cybersecurity. Between guests, we’ll be discussing the stories below:
- Over the weekend The Information reported that Elon Musk says SpaceX will build its own gas-turbine components to meet the power demands of its AI infra buildout. Elon says solar alone won’t provide enough power in the near term, and that they’re going to need natural gas to bootstrap it for a bit. The new turbines could come online within 18 months. Another sign that the AI data-center boom is accelerating a broader overhaul of our domestic grid, which helps pave the way for broader reindustrialization.
- Starcloud CEO Philip Johnston announced an ambitious new non-profit today called the Fermi Explorer Mission that will try to get a spacecraft to another star at a cost of under $15M before 2029. He’s sending it to Alpha Centauri, the star system nearest to us, and the flight will take about 80,000 years. Proxima Centauri b, an exoplanet in the Alpha Centauri star system, orbits the star Proxima Centauri in its goldilocks zone. So maybe we could find life there, when we arrive? This will be the first time humans have ever sent a spacecraft to another star besides the Sun.
- MrBeast released a thriller novel called The Most Dangerous Games with James Patterson. It’s a surprise move by the YouTube viral content creator, and the reception has been mixed at best. Semafor reported that two people close to the matter say that the book is on track to become a “historic bomb” for its publisher HarperCollins. Regardless, interesting to watch one of the most successful content creators in history poke and prod at new marketing/ distribution channels… one assumes he will, at least, get distribution in every major airport in the world + window-display-style-promotion in all the big brick-and-mortar bookstores across the country.
Lambda’s Stephen Balaban explains how offshoring the data center buildout will undermine reindustrialization
If we offshore the data center buildout, we not only lose data center jobs. We also undermine reindustrialization, and lose the jobs reindustrialization would bring back.
Because the AI buildout is driving the buildout of the domestic grid, which is paving the way for offshored industries to come back to the US.

“AI is a national strategic asset, in my opinion. Compute is a national strategic asset. And most importantly, the way that AI is driving the development of the grid is going to pave the way for more industrial onshoring to come back to the United States so that we can bring back different [industries].”
“Whether it’s electric arc furnace mills for aluminum and steel, micromills, turbine manufacturing, other types of energy-intensive [industries]... And there’s going to be a lot more jobs because of that. It’s a huge virtuous cycle.”
“I want those jobs here in the United States. I want those investments to be made here in the United States.”
