Jody Davis, Jon Lester to be inducted into Cubs Hall of Fame

As the Chicago Cubs continue honoring their 150th anniversary, several famed figures in the team’s storied history will be honored Sunday as they are inducted into the Cubs Hall of Fame.

This year’s inductees include a pair of players who played key roles in the team reaching the postseason, as catcher Jody Davis and pitcher Jon Lester will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Famed broadcaster Vince Lloyd will also be honored during a pregame event at Wrigley Field before the Cubs take on the Cincinnati Reds on Sunday night.

Davis was a key member of the 1984 Cubs team that won the National League East, clinching their first playoff berth in nearly 40 years. He hit 19 home runs and drove in 94 RBI’s during that season, slashing .256/.313/.421 on his way to a top-10 finish in MVP voting.

In eight seasons with the Cubs, Davis hit 122 home runs and made two All-Star Game appearances.

Lester signed one of the richest free agent deals in Chicago sports history when he agreed to join the Cubs prior to the 2015 season. In all he spent six seasons with the Cubs, with a 77-44 record with a 3.64 ERA.

His biggest contribution was as part of the pitching staff that helped the team win the 2016 World Series title, their first championship in 108 years. Lester finished second in Cy Young voting that season, with a 19-5 record and a 2.44 ERA. He also pitched in Game 7 of the World Series as the team snapped their infamous title drought.

Lloyd was a legendary broadcaster, gaining fame alongside the immortal Jack Brickhouse in calling both Cubs and White Sox games. He then became the Cubs’ radio play-by-play voice in the 1960s alongside Lou Boudreau, and also served as the first-ever play-by-play voice of the Chicago Bulls.

He died in 2003 at his home in Arizona.

The inductees will be honored prior to the start of Sunday’s game, with first pitch set for 6:20 p.m. The game will air on NBC Chicago.

After the induction, their plaques will be featured in the Cubs Hall of Fame exhibit, located on the concourse beneath the left field bleachers at Wrigley Field.
