if everyone is using AI to code, does that mean that we’re all generating the same quality of code? (i will not promote)

been thinking about this a lot. feels like everyone's building stuff with ai now. codex, claude, whatever. and the majority of people doing this have zero coding background. they're not engineers - basically people that think they can now prompt their way into a working product. which is genuinely incredible. barrier to building dropped to basically nothing. this is what i've been thinking about - if none of us actually understand what's happening under the hood, and we're all prompting the same handful of tools trained on the same patterns, are we all just generating slightly different versions of the exact same thing? like if i ask claude to build me a saas landing page, and you ask claude to build you a saas landing page, how different are those outputs actually going to be? probably not that different. same design patterns, same component structure, same instinct toward what "good" looks like because that's literally baked into the model. used to be building something required actual skill. that skill gap meant real differentiation. now the skill gap is gone for a huge chunk of people, which means the differentiation has to come from somewhere else entirely. my theory is it becomes 100% about the idea itself and how specific your vision is. vague prompts get you generic output. specific, weird, opinionated prompts from someone who actually knows their niche deeply get you something that stands out. but most vibe coders don't have that specificity yet because they're new to building in general. so right now what i'm seeing is a flood of products that all kind of feel the same. everyone else is just generating remixes of the same underlying template. anyone else noticing this? feels like we're about to see a flood of nearly identical products built by people who've never written a line of code, and the ones that actually stand out will be the ones built by people who know exactly who they're building for.
