Investing - Theory, News & General • Re: Bonds: are Bogleheads slicing and dicing their fixed income allocatio
I DO slice and dice bond funds/bond AA. Why? nearing retirement and want diversification. For near term expenses using “safe” holdings. Think CDs/ultra-short funds. 5-10yr Future expenses, short-intermediate term bond funds. Then there is the long term TIPS for beyond 10 years. Even using some “active” funds from Vanguard. Made sure to have some international and EM in the mix for country/currency diversification. Doing most of this to mitigate SORR. Want a steady income in early retirement. Also moving AA to more FI 4-5 years BEFORE expected retirement. If you have all your early years covered by safe assets, then no need to sell equities at the worst time which is right before or in the early phase of retirement.
