Investing - Theory, News & General • Re: Allan Roth article... "Has Index Investing Gone Too Far?"

... Well worth reading the entire piece, but it probably won't silence the indexing naysayers like MIchael Green, and others.

Hah! Michael Green is putting his $ where his mouth is!

He recently left Simplify, the alternative investment firm where he was Portfolio Manager and Market Strategist, and formed a new investment firm... Tier1 Alpha, that will offer an ETF (? others) that trades around index fund flows. He posted a lengthy introduction, explaining their investing strategy in his substack (even mentioning Bogle, Vanguard, and the Bogleheads)... https://www.yesigiveafig.com/p/its-time-to-complicate

This sounds a bit like front-running to me, but he defends the legality of their approach...

Front-running rules prohibit the misuse of material, non-public information about imminent customer orders. Tier1 possesses no such information. We observe public index methodologies, public mandates, and measurable market flows, and estimate the transactions those rules are likely to require. Anticipating the consequences of public rules is analysis...

Will be interesting to see how this plays out, as the success of his strategy ironically depends on Indexing continuing to thrive!
