5 Stories We're Paying Attention to Today
Happy Friday.
The current thing in tech and business is the WSJ profile on Dario Amodei’s wife Cami Clark.
Run of Show
- The WSJ’s lengthy profile of Dario Amodei’s wife Cami Clark is blowing up the timeline today. The piece reports on some fairly lurid details of Clark’s background and history as a Silicon Valley connector of sorts. We’ll be reading through it and discussing it on the show today.
- WSJ also has an interesting piece on Trump and Elon’s relationship, and how they’ve repaired it over time — just in time for the midterm elections.
- Yesterday the crypto hardware wallet company Trezor revealed that the addresses of over 11,000 of its customers who had purchased the wallets over the last 90 days were leaked in a data breach.
- CNBC reported this morning that Jeff Bezos has taken a minority stake in Liverpool FC, with the option to take full control of the club. Bezos’ current stake represents about 30% of the club’s value.
Clip Spotlight: Sequoia Capital GP Sonya Huang is seeing Jevons Paradox all over the place from her perch at the firm
"Not to be an annoying VC, but Jevons Paradox is a freaking wonderful thing."
"Because what's happening is — I see the data on all this stuff. Our companies, we see the gross margins going up. At the same time as AI usage is going way up, their gross margins are also going up. Because they are the beneficiaries of intelligence getting cheaper and cheaper to meter."
"On the other hand — and I see this from the model companies we work with — their cohorts are getting better and better and better."
"So it's not like they're facing price competition, and their businesses are going into the gutter. They have phenomenal businesses, where because they're able to provide intelligence at increasingly cheap prices, their businesses actually get better and better."
"So I actually think this is an 'everybody wins' situation."
