End of musician Ashley MacIsaac's defamation suit against Google leaves unanswered questions

The end of musician Ashley MacIsaac’s defamation lawsuit against the search engine giant Google leaves questions unresolved in the area of libel and artificial intelligence, an expert says.

In February, MacIsaac filed a legal action against Google in Toronto based on its AI tool appearing to confuse him with another Ashley MacIsaac with a lengthy, serious criminal record in Newfoundland. The Newfoundland MacIsaac has served time for offences including sexual assault and internet luring of a minor, and is on the national sex offender registry, the musician MacIsaac’s statement of claim says.
