What is the core reason being half of the energy being lost during the charging of a capacitor?

There are already various questions on PSE on the same topic. However, none of the answers are in agreement, which makes it hard to understand the real reason.

In an ideal case, why is energy still lost?

Different answers I have seen say different things:

  • the missing energy is dissipated in unavoidable resistance in the wires/battery, etc
  • current “has inertia” and the capacitor overshoots and continuously oscillates
  • there is inductance in the wires,
  • some say the Poynting Vector must be considered in the calculations.
  • the ideal model itself is impossible.

If the answer is that the ideal model itself is impossible, what specific assumption is made in solving ordinary, textbook questions on charging of capacitors?
