Why is hyperon-nucleon interaction different than nucleon-nucleon interaction?

I found this statement here in my experimental nuclear physics script: "Hyperons in nuclei also exhibit a shell structure but different than that for protons and neutrons, since the hyperon-nucleon (Y N) and hyperon-hyperon (Y Y) interactions differ from NN interactions." Why is that? I thought that the strong interaction between each quark works exactly the same and makes no difference if its u, d or s or whatever. Or do they mean specifically in nuclei, because hyperons enter a completely different phase space than nucleons (no Pauli-blocking)?
