Literary controversy of the week

As you probably know, Emily Wilson wrote a critical review of Christopher Nolan's Odyssey movie, and Joyce Carol Oates posted a negative evaluation of Wilson's review, among lots of other (mass and social) media coverage.

My favorite so far is today's SMBC:

Wikpedia tells us that Amleth was

a medieval Scandinavian legend, the direct inspiration of the character of Prince Hamlet, the hero of William Shakespeare's tragedy The Tragedy of Hamlet, Prince of Denmark. The chief authority for the legend of Amleth is Saxo Grammaticus, who devotes to it parts of the third and fourth books of his Gesta Danorum, completed at the beginning of the 13th century.

Disputational amusements aside, I mostly agree with Wilson's discussion, though I haven't seen the movie yet.
