Autonomic Displasia

In cancer, 'return cost' is a metaphor that predicts nothing staging does not. In the autonomic nervous system it is a measured quantity: heart rate variability indexes how well the body returns to ground, and critical slowing down in that measure forecasts transitions into depression. This is the one place the displacement framework's central number has a real-time instrument.
