The Cordalock: A Four-Way Bike Lock

A group of metal fabricators were visiting a trade show in Germany, when they noticed something disturbing: "Hundreds of bicycles parked outside – many secured with two or three different locks, while others were missing a wheel or saddle," according to German bike magazine Velo Biz. They subsequently designed the Cordalock, a lock that can capture both wheels, the frame and the saddle:

Its internal construction differs significantly from a conventional cable lock. Beneath the textile sheath, the Cordalock comprises hardened, carbonitrided steel rings and a steel core. The result is a flexible structure designed to withstand common theft tools, including bolt cutters.

The Cordalock weighs 2.2kg (4.4 lbs). Recently posted to Kickstarter, it's been successfully funded with 41 days left to pledge at press time. It runs $180 and will ship in December.
