This is a good example of why we need clearer definitions around agent autonomy. A system where humans manually orchestrate prompts between models is fundamentally different from an architecture with autonomous planning, tool selection, and feedback loops.

In real agent systems, autonomy isn’t about bots talking — it’s about closed-loop decision making: goal decomposition, state tracking, self-evaluation, and adaptive retries without human steering. If humans are still routing tasks and interpreting intermediate outputs, that’s closer to advanced workflow automation than autonomous agents.

We’ve run into the same distinction while working on Cogniteiv AI. One of the hardest engineering problems isn’t generation — it’s building reliable control layers that let agents reason over objectives, validate results, and recover from failure deterministically. Without that, you get impressive demos but not scalable autonomy.

This thread is a good reminder that multi-agent hype often hides how much invisible human scaffolding is still doing the real work.
