What to Buy at Garage Sales to Resell (BOLO List)
# What to Buy at Garage Sales to Resell
Garage sales are where resellers learn their most important skill: negotiation. The stock is cheap, the sellers usually just want the stuff gone, and every single purchase is a chance to practice the highest leverage skill in this business. Your money is made in the buy.
Here’s what to grab, and how to buy it right.
What to look for
- Tools. Cordless DeWalt, Milwaukee, and Snap-On. Tradespeople replace these constantly.
- Cast iron cookware. Griswold, Wagner, and vintage Lodge with flat bottoms.
- Vintage clothing. Band tees, 90s streetwear, and good denim.
- Video games and consoles. Retro systems and complete in box games.
- Cameras and lenses. Film bodies and old prime lenses.
- Small appliances. Name brands that work. Test before you pay.
- LEGO. Complete sets only.
- Vinyl records. First pressings and classic albums.
- Outdoor gear. Canoes, kayaks, and tents. A $5 canoe sold for $2,300.
- Board games. Complete and preferably vintage.
How to negotiate, the right way
- Set your number before you arrive. Know your ceiling and be willing to walk away. The walk is your strongest move.
- Offer cash and fast pickup. Sellers want it gone today. Be the easy buyer.
- Bundle. Buying three things at once gets you a better price than three separate negotiations.
- Be polite and read the seller. This is a win-win, not a fight. If they need the money, don’t squeeze them dry.
The whole point is low cost of goods. Get it cheap enough that fees, shipping, and your time are covered before you even list it. That’s how garage sales turn a Saturday morning into real profit.
