Hollywood has a tendency to chase popular trends One of the trends that's been around recently especially in films relates to "woke" culture. What this means in practice
Discourage the protagonist from being white, male or both, typically also any form of "hero" character Although feel free to make the villain white and British (we have better accents for that sort of thing) Encourage the protagonist into being ethnically diverse, feminine, or sexually diverse even to the detriment of the writing in so far as forcing everyone to remember the above points over and over and over again. (recent Dr Who being the perfect example), instead of being a character trait, making it a main focus of the story. Discourage masculine story lines that focus on systematic or systemizing such as building or technology focused. (think iron man building a suit hacked together with the Lego operating system) Encourage feminine story style writing that focus more on relationships betrayal or drama. (think mills boon books or television shows such as Dallas)
End Goal 1. score as many social media points as possible for a dopamine hit from friends online and for future jobs from like minded people 2. Bonus points for political messaging and encouraging Victimisation or oppression of the protagonist
For points 3 and 4 these actually matter more than points 1 and 2. 1 and 2 are more just warning flags about the mindset of the writer (usually at Disney) before seeing the movie or series (see IronHeart for reference) If you avoid the political messaging then 3 and 4 can be equally valuable but appeal to different types of audiences
Battlestar Galatica would be a good example, the original 70's series being more systematic and encouraging the traditional fight of good against evil with clear boundaries between both sides. The remade TV series instead focusing on personal relationships, back stabbing and betrayal (everyone trying to guess who is a cylon in disguise)
