A commenter asked me to swap my ship for the one from Flight of the Navigator. Done, plus a week of new things on my 1:1 Earth-scale planet: tectonic plates, a sharper orbital view, walking and bet...
Last week I posted my childhood-dream planet engine here. The most fun request in the comments: swap my ship for the one from Flight of the Navigator, because "our childhood dream would be complete". I couldn't resist. Another commenter wanted to play it just how it is right now: it's getting closer. So here's the Navigator, flying the whole planet in one take, from orbit to the ground and back, with no loading screen. What's new since last week: - Tectonics: the relief now comes from plate tectonics, so mountain ranges, rifts, volcanoes and island arcs rise where the plates meet. - A sharper orbital view: from high orbit the planet now shows its real relief and its coastlines down to the pixel. - Walking: land anywhere, step outside and walk, with footsteps and wind that follow the ground. - Vegetation: better trees and shrubs, placed by the climate over the whole planet. The planet is still the size of the Earth, rendered every frame from orbit to the ground. You can build it from source on Windows today: github.com/exolunehq/exolune (source available).
