Salesforce to Buy Defense Tech Startup, Extending Acquisition Streak

Salesforce on Friday said it was buying a defense tech startup called Rune Technologies to build out its suite of software tools, called Missionforce, designed for the military.

The company is paying $375 million in cash and stock, according to online publication Resilience Media. The two-year-old startup founded by two former Anduril Industries employees sells software to agencies like the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army to forecast supply needs. It had raised $30 million from investors including Andreessen Horowitz and Human Capital. It was last valued at $134 million, according to the publication.

This is the latest acquisition announced by Salesforce this year. In September, it bought AI-powered customer service agent Fin for $3.6 billion. Last month, it said it planned to buy publicly traded customer engagement company Braze in a deal valued at $5.7 billion. And in September it said it would buy customer research firm Listen Labs. It also paid at least $1 billion for Germany’s Contentful, which makes content management software, and agreed to buy Israeli analytics software company Loops.
