[Mixed trope] A foreign character has a name that doesn't exist in their culture, is spelled wrong, or otherwise doesn't make sense

Hikaru Sulu from Star Trek. Although "Hikaru" is a real Japanese name, Sulu isn't, it's especially incorrect since Japanese doesn't use "l" sounds. The Sulu name comes from the Sulu Sea in the Philippines, but Hikaru Sulu is not Filipino, he's Japanese-American. Notably, many Japanese dubs change Sulu's name to Kato. Kenuichio Harada from Marvel. The Silver Samurai's real name is Kenuichio Harada, but the name Kenuichio doesn't exist in Japanese. Like with Sulu, his name is changed to a real Japanese name in Japanese translations: Kenichiro. Karma from Marvel. Karma's real name was originally Xi'an Coy Manh, which is not a real Vietnamese name. Decades later, an actual Vietnamese writer retconned it so that her real name is actually Xuân Cao Mạnh. Fighting Baseball. An old Japanese NES game has some rather amusing names for the American players, presumably the result of the devs just writing names that sound American without checking. Death Note. L's real name is L Lawliet, very much not a real name, and plenty of other foreign characters also have unrealistic names like Raye Penber, Beyond Birthday, or Fridge Copen. A justified case because the author intentionally picked names that don't exist in real life due to how the Death Note works.
