Max/Ultra rename, read side by side from the pricing page and Help Center: what actually changed and what did not

3

Lots of threads this week say "Ultra removed limits". I read the new pricing page and the Help Center articles (Max, Ultra, "How do usage and length limits work", API credits) and put the old and new wording next to each other. Here is the short version, quotes paraphrased closely, checked 31 Oct 2026. Max ($100, was "Max 5x") - Session: 5x the Pro plan's usage every five hours (unchanged). - Week: 5x the Pro plan's usage every week, separate weekly limit for Fable (this multiple was NOT published before; the old page only gave the five-hour multiple). - API credits: $100/month, Claude Platform only, not usable in Claude Code or the apps. Ultra ($200, was "Max 20x") - Session: no five-hour limit for verified accounts. Verification is automatic from account and payment history; a temporary limit applies until then. So a brand-new Ultra account is not limit-free on day one. - Week: 10x the Pro plan's usage every week, separate weekly limit for Fable. The weekly limit did not go away. - API credits: $200/month, same restriction. Pro ($20) - The page dropped the old "at least 5x Free" line. No new multiple replaces it. What did not change - Claude Code still shares the plan's pool across web, desktop, mobile and Claude Code. - What drains the allowance is still conversation length, attached files, model and features, not a message count. The Help Center's own advice: batch related questions in one message, refer back instead of re-pasting, keep reusable docs in a Project, start a new conversation when the topic changes. - Usage credits at API rates remain the escape hatch when you hit the cap. So the "20x" people were arguing about was always the five-hour multiple. Over a week, the old Max 20x was never documented as 20x of anything, and the new page now says 10x. If your pain is running out of week, Ultra does not fix that; if your pain is the five-hour wait, it does, once verified. Disclosure: I run StackVersus, a directory that keeps these rows with the exact vendor quote and check date, plus a change log with the rename dated: getstackversus.com/limits/claude Happy to be corrected if a page says something different in your region.
