Introducing the new Ente CLI
The new Rust CLI is now released.
Over time, our vision is to move more and more of our code to Rust so that all the clients use the same solid and tested core. When code is moved into Rust, we will also start exposing the same functionality via a Rust CLI. Eventually, the vision is that anything that you can do in the mobile app or desktop app, for any of our products (Photos, Locker, Auth, and even lab projects like Ensu and Space, and toys like Paste), you should be able to do using the CLI.
This CLI is specifically written to be agent friendly, and can be run easily on headless VMs, and has multi-account support from the get go. Eventually it'll also allow things like transferring your accounts between Ente and your self-hosted instance and vice versa.
All that is for the future though.
The current release includes all the functionality provided by the existing Go CLI, and it can also adopt existing exports made from the Go CLI (or from the desktop app). More details are in the migration guide.
We'll now start adding new features to the Rust CLI, aiming for weekly releases.
The old Go CLI is not going away, and will continue to work, but we do recommend that for new setups you start using the new Rust CLI since we'll not be adding new features to the old one.
You can download the CLI using the installation guide. More details are in the getting started guide.
