Do you add audiobooks to your reading challenge?
Good morning fellow booklovers, In the past weeks I have been listening on Spotify, the audiobook of the first book of the Dune saga, to refresh my memory with the upcoming new movie in December and I was struck by a questions: does listening to a book, allow me to add it to my Goodread book challenge? And this led me to analyse what reading is and why, or why not I should add the audiobook. (All this was done whilst riding my motorbike to work). Reading can be seen as an exercise for the mind to learn new vocabularies, learn how to structure sentences better or to learn new things (based on the type of literature one reads). But reading is an escape-room for some (myself included), where we travel through space and time thanks to the storytelling abilities of certain people. And to respect the abilities and skills of these people, we invest time in reading what they have written for us. Listening to audiobooks, can help, in this day and age, to pursue our love for storytelling, and knowledge, where our lives have become to hectic and the time to shelter ourselves in this alternative universe/worlds/times, becomes less and less. But at the same time, we can listen to books, whilst doing menial things in the everyday lives, therefore overlapping whilst splitting out attentions to more than one thing at the time, but really giving it to none. So, does a book belong to a reading challenge because of the time we had to dedicate to it, or simply because we read from the first to the last word between to covers? Which would than make it possible for audiobooks to enter this challenge as well? It's a bit of a rant, I realise, but I hope the message comes across and I have explain my doubt enough for you to share your thoughts on this.
