Bright Signs for the Economy Ahead of Vital Day

5

Good morning, and get set for a slate of broadly consumer-focused earnings reports that should give the economy a health check.

First up was Royal Caribbean, which just sailed in with an earnings beat —a good sign, given the spiraling hike in fuel costs. My colleague George Glover has more details on that and its strong bookings for next year.

We also have United Parcel Service , another bellwether that gives a strong sense of consumer activity. It lifted its full-year outlook, and there is positivity around its restructuring strategy. Coca-Cola was also upbeat as strong global demand helped offset sluggish sales volumes in North America.

In the premarket, stock futures were rising after a cautious start ahead of tomorrow’s “super-catalyst day.” Keep an eye out for gold, which was threatening to fall below the $4,000 level.

Some of the big stock movers today include electronics manufacturer Celestica , which had strong earnings last night, and Nvidia, which was up a touch after announcing a $3 billion investment in Meta ’s recently announced share offer.

So, nothing too dramatic so far ahead of the main event tomorrow with the Fed rate decision and big tech earnings.

Have a great day.

P.S. Feel free to get in touch with any thoughts and comments.
