I used REA to bring MacOS AirPods connection Handling to windows!
Connection PopUp I daily drive Windows because of my work, but I wanted to be able to use my AirPods the same way they are handled around the Apple Ecosystem. The hardware is great; the software experience is not. So I spent a weekend reverse engineering the macOS AirPods connection handling, brought it to windows and now it works seamlessly. What it does: - When I open the lid, a small dark card appears with the buds and case, battery levels, and connection status, I did not use apple's UI assets because It was not worth the extra work. - Windows connects and switches the default audio output automatically. - Closing the lid dismisses the card, and stops the connection automatically. - It runs at login as a tiny background watcher. No tray icon, no telemetry, no network listener, lean, simple and imported directly from Apple's environment (Of course I had to do some workarounds, but It is essentially the same functionality, so I am very happy with it) - ANC and Audio modes were also imported so I can control that as well. Whenever I want to switch them to my Iphone, just simply start listening to something there, audio transfers seamlessly as well. I know there are tools around for this, but I did not want to install any unknown 3rd party software or pay for something I could do myself. Not selling anything and not trying to turn this into a product. It’s just my daily driver. Curious if anyone else has gone down this rabbit hole.
